Duratec was engaged by Rio Tinto (DSL) to conduct concrete repairs to the Dry Salt Dump Bridge abutments at Lake MacLeod.

Details

The repairs totalled 60m2 and were to be performed during a planned shutdown during the dry winter months of the Pilbara.

With potable water supplies being limited on this remote site making hydro-demolition not viable, all degraded concrete was removed manually by jack hammers before reinstatement by form and pour methods using Renderoc LA55. The scope also included erection of temporary structural props (with design and certification), coordination of scaffolding, crack injection (Polygrout 100) and coating the entire structure using Nitoprime DG followed by Dekguard Elastic.

The project required a wide range of skilled labour including project managers and supervisors, carpenters, plasterers and trades assistants, who had to travel significant distances to get to the work site each day.

Highlights

  • The selected coating system protects concrete in saline environments and being elastomeric can accommodate significant substrate cracking and movement.
  • Duratec conducted post-works quality testing with full reporting to confirm the repairs have been carried out to specification and also provided ITPs and PCFs for each aspect of the works.
  • The project was delivered with commendation from the client for our safety and quality performance.

Capabilities

  • Concrete Repair
