Duratec was engaged by Rio Tinto to remediate a number of fixed plant assets at their West Angelas iron ore mine in the Pilbara.
The structural integrity of the assets had been inspected and it was revealed that their condition had degraded due to coating break-down, corrosion, impact damage and fatigue.
The scope of work included repairs and blasting and painting to beams, columns, braces and concrete plinths, including the application of protective coatings to external surfaces.
Hotworks and structural steel remediation works were also performed. A shedder and deflector plates were site fabricated and installed; and compensating plates were also installed.
- Duratec provided an in-house multi-skilled crew for the works including boilermakers and abrasive blaster/ painters.
- The majority of the works were completed during plant operation meaning less production downtime for RTIO.
- Duratec developed a protection system during the works that allows for conveyor footings to be safely accessed whilst conveyors are still in operation
- Concrete Repair
- Abrasive Blasting & Painting
- Precision Grouting
